RADIAL SHOCKWAVE THERAPY ST. LOUIS, MO
Treating chronic foot conditions can be problematic because by the time treatment begins, scar tissue and adhesions have either started to set in or have become permanent. Therefore, most traditional treatments become less effective.
At Missouri Foot and Ankle, we are always excited to embrace new technologies in the office that help people in St. Louis suffering from chronic foot, heel, and ankle pain. Take a step in the right direction with radial pulse therapy!
The St. Louis foot doctors at Missouri Foot and Ankle now offer therapy using the enPuls device by Zimmer, which delivers a mechanical energy deeper and at a much higher intensity right into the affected muscles.
What is Zimmer enPuls?
Radial pulse therapy is used to break up scar tissue, help treat muscle pain, increase circulation in the area being treated, and accelerate the overall healing process so that damaged tissue can gradually regenerate and heal itself. It also affects the tissue tone positively, making other therapies more effective.
Radial Pulse Shockwave Therapy is an FDA-approved technology that is fast, safe, non-invasive, and effective at treating soft tissue disorders, such as…
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Achilles Tendonitis
- Tendonosis of the Foot and Ankle
- Chronic Achilles Pain
- Chronic Heel Pain
- Acute and Chronic Muscle Pain
Throughout our career, we have gathered a team of podiatrists who dedicate their lives to helping you relieve your worst foot and ankle pains. We inject an outpatient procedure at both of our St. Louis offices. Let us help you today!

How Does Zimmer enPuls Work?
Scar tissue often adheres to and puts pressure on nerves, which can result in significant pain in the affected areas of the foot. The enPuls device uses mechanical energy to effectively press the reset button on chronic scarred and hard-to-treat soft tissue!
Following treatment, pressure is taken off the nerve that causes pain, increasing circulation, which helps the body more efficiently heal itself.
How? Your doctor will apply the enPuls applicator head over the target area in a very slow, circular motion. The device emits ballistic sound waves that penetrate deep through the soft tissue, causing a microtrauma or inflammatory condition within the area. This will trigger the cells to release a biochemical that intensifies the body’s natural healing response and allows for the creation of new microscopic blood vessels in the affected area.
Generally, therapy is administered once a week for a series of three to five treatments. Each treatment takes around five minutes, and depending on the desired depth of penetration, varying amounts of energy may be utilized to fulfill the desired effect. Therefore, this might cause some slight discomfort in the first few minutes of treatment, but it is often described as mild. Some soreness may be experienced post-treatment, but you are able to get right back on your feet immediately and continue with your daily activities!

Clinical studies demonstrate radial pulse therapy’s proven success rate which is equal to or greater than that of most traditional treatment methods like surgery. However, unlike surgery, there is less risk of infection and zero downtime. Also, unlike other treatments such as high-energy shockwave therapy, there is no need for anesthesia to be administered when using enPuls.
Radial energy waves penetrate deep into the tissues where other forms of therapy, such as heat, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation, simply cannot reach. Many patients will feel results gradually after each treatment, and a significant number will find an immediate pain reduction.
When you choose Missouri Foot and Ankle for help with your chronic foot pain, we will answer all of your questions before, during, and after treatment!
